Sutera is a lawyer who caused Al to be sentenced to prison for a crime he did not commit. However, she attempts to correct her mistake by filing an appeal with the court regarding Al's case. The court agrees with Sutera's appeal, on the condition that Al undergoes parole and is banished from the district for several years. While serving his parole in the village, Al applies the knowledge he acquired while imprisoned to sustain his livelihood. He carries out village work such as repairing electrical appliances, plumbing, cleaning gardens and so on at reasonable prices. This is disliked by some other residents who often mock his credibility as a former convict. Al and Sutera's meeting occurs by accident when a short circuit happens at the community service center, forcing Sutera to seek the services of an electrician. One of her students asks Al to help fix the problem. This moment marks the beginning of their relationship.
